It was so lovely to see all the children back in the classroom this week and what a week it has been! We have been so busy it is hard to believe that it has only been a week.
We started the week continuing our learning about Iceland and recapping our geographical knowledge on the country with a line drawing. In Art we came up with a colour pallet to represent the land of fire and ice and thought about why we would associate the colours with hot and cold. We shown this using different media including paint, oil pastel and pencil crayons.
In English, we reflected on our experiences of lockdown and came up with some positives and negatives of the time. We then worked in pairs having a go at putting these into a poem starting with a negative but backing it up with a positive to remind us it was also a time to celebrate. We presented these on Word and submitted them onto Google Classroom.
In Maths we started our topic of angles and made some of our own using classroom resources.
Lastly, we ended the week with a visit from Matthew Bellwood who carried out a workshop based around the Nordic Folk Tale of Lemminkainen. The day was filled with singing, drama and storytelling. The children even had the chance to create their very own shadow puppet show to re-enact the story using puppets they made themselves. What a lovely way to end our first week back, the children thoroughly enjoyed it!
Our learner of the week this week is Jasdeep for a fantastic first week at school. I have been so impressed with how well she has settled and the relationships she has made with others. Jasdeep worked so well during our Lemminkainen workshop and listened well to the story. It is so lovely seeing you grow in confidence Jasdeep. Well done!
